Ah, the power of incumbency... and the polls. Senator Dale Volker must feel comfortable in both.
With very little explanation, the 36-year incumbent Buffalo Republican has backed out of a scheduled debate with Democratic opponent Kathy Konst scheduled for October 22nd on R News, Time Warner Cable's 24-hour news channel out of Rochester.
The explanation from Volker's campaign:
"Unfortunately, due to a scheduling conflict that we did not catch until today while going through our schedule, Senator Volker will be unable to attend the October 22nd R News debate. We are extremely sorry for this inconvenience," writes Volker campaign representative Mary Bechtel.
The Volker campaign offered no date for rescheduling the event.
According to the Konst campaign, it is merely the latest example of the incumbent calling off planned public appearances that involved both candidates for the 59th State Senate District.
