Rochester's mayor will demand more of his city workforce live within the city limits. The former chief of Rochester's police force believes beyond the economic advantage of having hundreds more professionals contributing to a declining tax base, it works in neighborhoods to have their government servants as neighbors.
Duffy believes this will work best with city cops. A vast majority live outside the city, some even beyond the county line.
Those who choose not to will be asked to work elsewhere. Can it backfire? The D&C reports it's already restricted the candidate pool for those seeking advancement within the RPD.
No word yet as to whether there will be push back from City Council.
So for now, Duffy's sent the message about working for Rochester: live it or leave it.
